LAS VEGAS — Maxxis International-USA is expanding its light truck tire portfolio with the Razr AT, a premium all-terrain LT tire targeted at owners of light trucks, SUVs and crossovers.
The new product, which Maxxis describes as a more aggressive version of the Razr MT launched in 2016, debuted at the recent Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, with commercial availability starting in the second quarter of 2020.
The Razr AT was engineered with knowledge gained from Maxxis' involvement in off-road racing with the MT version, Maxxis officials said.
Maxxis said it expects to continue building a "robust" line of light truck tires using the Razr family name but did not elaborate at this time on what might come next. The Razr name originally adorned a line of off-road competition tires for ATVs and UTVs.
The AT was designed to complement the MT, Maxxis said, while also having its own identity, such as a more aggressive appearance — including distinct sidewall and tread designs — and off-road performance.
The AT incorporates a range of features such as:
- a tread compound "with advanced chemical fillers" for enhanced tear resistance and tread life;
- an "aggressive" armor sidewall design for increased traction and puncture resistance;
- dual-cord casing technology for improved casing strength; and
- 3D tread blocks and bridge reinforcements to reduce road noise and irregular wear.
Maxxis expects to offer the AT in 45 SKUs covering 16- to 24-inch rim diameters in metric/P-metric, LT and flotation iterations. The LT and flotation sizes will carry E or F load ratings. All sizes will be M+S all-season rated.
Metric sizing will start at 225/60R17 and run up to s75/60R20; LT sizes will run from LT265/75R16 to LT285/55R22; and flotation sizing will from 31x10.5R15LT to 37x13.5R24LT.
Pricing information was not disclosed.
