Owners of some 2011-19 Outlander SUVs may complain of a knocking or squeaking sound from the rear brakes on pedal application. According to Mitsubishi, the noise is most obvious at low speeds, or at a standstill when shifting the gearshift lever from Drive to Reverse or Reverse to Drive. Insufficient tension in the brake pad clips at the brake caliper supports are the root cause of the noise.
Beefier pad clips from a new clip set, part #4605B885, are now available to address the concerns. Included in the set are new upper and lower clips, plus reformulated brake grease. When installing the pads into the caliper supports, follow the sequence shown in the illustration for easier assembly.
