LEESBURG, Va. — The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) has developed a mobile app that allows technicians to test their knowledge via phone, tablet or computer and extend their certification expiration dates by one year without having to visit a test center.
"The ASE Renewal App program is about giving technicians options for how they manage their professional certifications," ASE President and CEO Tim Zilke said.
So far, more than 100 ASE certified technicians have extended their certification expiration dates without visiting a test center, ASE said, noting the program is available only to technicians who already are certified in the automobile series of tests (tests A1-A9).
Participants in the ASE Renewal App program are required to commit only a few minutes per certification area per month for answering questions. It takes an average of eight months to extend certifications by a year. Learning is a strong emphasis of the program, ASE added, noting that question content focusing on leading-edge technology on modern vehicles or issues that technicians typically have difficulty diagnosing.
