ROVERETO, Italy — Italian retread technology firm Marangoni S.p.A. has introduced the MTXL retread, an advanced technology designed to provide casings with a tread design similar to the original tread, while meeting customers' specific needs.
Marangoni and Finnish distributor, Lujakami Oy, collaborated on the development of MTXL after Finland-based Valtasiirto Oy asked Marangoni to design a retread solution for the original equipment tires on their Kiruna slag pot carriers.
"These new premium tires of the size 29.5R29 had a newly designed casing, with higher load capacity and a completely new tread design," Ayhan Haliloglu, OTR Tire area manager for Marangoni, said in a statement.
Marangoni had never before retreaded a size 29.5R29 tire, according to the company.
After retrieving Valtasiirto's casings, Marangoni specialists checked them to make sure their quality and casing integrity were suitable for retreading, Marangoni said.
The casings were buffed of old tread material, and Marangoni's engineering and production departments proposed a tread depth, pattern design and tread compound to fit the specific operation, the Italian retreader said.
Because of the casings' dimensions, it wasn't feasible to process them in a conventional hot-cure mold. However, Marangoni's Recalcifex system allows the company to groove tread patterns in almost any way possible, according to Mr. Halilioglu.
"Before we could do that, we had to reprogram our software with a new design, optimized to meet the end-user's specific requirements," he said.
After the computer programming, the tires were mounted on the Recalcifex machine and grooved. The MTXL retreads are in operation in Finland, according to Marangoni. Lujakami's technical specialists are monitoring their performance, to prove the retreads can meet the demands of this severe industrial application.
Lujakumi, a retreader in Finland since 1954, has used Marangoni's Ringtread system since 2017, according to Marangoni. Valtasiirto offers comprehensive transportation solutions for industrial outdoor and indoor logistics.
