ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monro Inc. has expanded its collaboration with Amazon.com to provide tire installation services at more than 400 additional Monro retail tire and automotive service locations in nine additional states across the Central and Western regions of the U.S.
Customers who purchase tires from Amazon.com can select the "Ship-to-Store" option and choose installation at more than 800 locations operating under a number of Monro store brands in 21 states. The Rochester-based retailer also said it remains on track to continue adding retail locations to the program throughout fiscal 2020.
Monro launched the "ship-to-store" tire installation service for Amazon customers last July in the greater Baltimore area and then expanded the service to more than 300 additional stores in the Eastern U.S. in October.
The stores added to the program are in Arkansas, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
"The rollout of our Amazon.com collaboration has been progressing very smoothly, ..." Monro President and CEO Brett Ponton said during a May 21 conference call with financial analysts, noting that the 800 stores now active in the Amazon.com installation program represent about two-thirds of the company's store network.
Mr. Ponton went on to say that about half of the customers who come to Monro via Amazon.com are new to Monro.
"So it gives us a great opportunity, I think, to drive traffic and build a relationship with a consumer. It allows us to not only convert that tire installation to other services when they are at the store, but also allows us to build a long-term relationship with them via our CRM platform going forward," he said.
