SPRINGVILLE, Utah — Their great grandfather founded the business in 1924 by servicing batteries and alternators out of a local garage. Now, 100 years later, great grandsons Riley Johnson and Jeff Jackson have grown Johnson Tire Service into a business with approximately $5 million in annual sales.
Their accomplishments are a point of pride in Springville. Located six miles south of Provo, more than 600 people gathered on June 7 to celebrate the anniversary at the annual Johnson Tire Day. The company provided free hotdogs and soft drinks, and the company sold approximately 400 tires, at cost, to show their appreciation to their loyal customers.
Major tire companies also chipped in, with Tire Pros, Goodyear and Toyo Tire giving away sets of tires, as well as shirts, keychains, balls and other prizes. Johnson Tire Service is a member of American Tire Distributors Inc.'s Tire Pros organization.
"We've been fortunate to have multi-generation families come here for tires and other services," Riley said.
"Older customers will tell us this is where they had their first bicycle tire fixed. Others will travel an hour and half to come here. It's not a stretch to say we owe our success to loyal members of our community."
