MONTROSE, Ohio — Flynn's Tire Group opened its 10th retail store in Ohio on May 22, a seven-bay facility in Montrose, an unincorporated commercial community a few miles west of Akron.
The full-service shop, Flynn's 27th retail location overall, is the dealership's second retail store in the greater Akron area. It's in a former Tire America facility — the shop on Rothrock Loop had a life as other ventures, including a carpet retailer and billiards store, in between its tenure as a retail tire shop.
"We're returning it to its former glory," said Vice President James Flynn, standing in the newly renovated shop on opening day.
"We're all excited to be here. It's obviously a really good neighborhood. It gives our guys an opportunity to grow. ... We've had lots of love from the community so far."
Flynn's offered customers, greeted by its signature green banners, branded swag and lunch from a local taco truck.
Though the company didn't advertise the grand opening, the store experienced a steady flow of customers since soft launching the location last week, Regional Manager Justin Davis said.
The Montrose store, which will offer auto service as well as tires, has storage space for about 1,200 tires. It's outfitted with new Hunter Engineering tire-servicing equipment, Davis said, along with four Rotary-brand above-ground vehicle lifts.
When the store is fully-staffed, it will employ nine. Flynn's transferred experienced employees from other Ohio stores to the Montrose location, including store manager Garrett Vickers, Davis said. "We have a good core. A very good core."
Flynn's prides itself on its customer experience, President Joe Flynn said.
Shops often have the tires customers need in-stock or available the same or next day. Flynn's also keeps prices competitive, he added.
Customers can search for the tires they need in advance on Flynn's website. Tire selections are organized not just by price, but also by value and performance.
Flynn's picked Montrose to fill in its existing Akron footprint. The company also is looking to fill in gaps elsewhere.
The grand opening comes at the same time as the acquisition of Manordale Tire, a wholesale customer, full-service auto and tire shop n Delmont, Pa. Flynn's acquired the shop for an undisclosed amount last week, James Flynn said.
The company has three commercial sales and service locations and four wholesale distribution warehouses in addition to its shops.
Flynn's is looking to expand and acquire more tire dealers, Joe Flynn.
