MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Somewhere, W. Crowell Black is smiling.
On the 70th anniversary of his founding of the board of the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina, Black's Tire Service (BTS) set a record on Sept. 19 by raising $231,295.70 for the organization.
The money was raised via the 27th annual Black's Tire Charity Golf Tournament, held at Myrtle Beach National Golf Course.
A total of 240 golfers participated in the event.
The record amount comes in the same year that BTS is celebrating its 95th anniversary. Black established the company in Whiteville, N.C. in 1929
"Thank you to all our BTS family, team members, vendor partners and friends for stepping in and being a huge part of this," Rick Benton II, vice president of sales and marketing, said.
The charity supports abused, neglected and abandoned children to help them become productive members of the community.
