ST. LOUIS — Being an expansion-minded company while putting employees and customers foremost. That is the workplace philosophy of Aaron and Laura Telle, husband-and-wife proprietors of St. Louis-based Telle Tire & Auto Centers.
Mr. Telle, president and CEO, and Ms. Telle, human resources director, preside over a 10-store company with more than 70 employees. For most of its 77-year history, however, Telle Tire was a single-store operation.
"It was a typical, old-school operation," said Mr. Telle, a fourth-generation business owner who has worked at Telle Tire since high school, starting as a tire porter.
His father, Scott Telle and uncle Mark Telle, felt strongly that if they expanded the business too quickly, it would be bad for employees and customers alike.
But the younger Telles felt equally strongly that they could grow the dealership while actually enhancing employee happiness and customer satisfaction. In 2010, they started putting that idea into practice, opening their second store that year.
