UNIONTOWN, Ohio — Lloyd Stoyer, editor of Modern Tire Dealer magazine from 1986 to 2000, died March 1 at age 91.
A 1949 graduate of Ohio State University, Mr. Stoyer had a five-decade-long career in journalism that included 15 years at the Akron Beacon-Journal as a reporter, Sunday editor and assistant managing editor.
Mr. Stoyer started his journalism career as a reporter for the Conneaut (Ohio) News Herald before being drafted to serve in the Korean War.
He also edited The County Press in Lapeer, Mich., and the Niles Times with its six weekly suburban papers in Niles, Ohio.
Mr. Stoyer also held several positions in public relations, including a post as internal public relations director for the former Republic Steel's five plants in Stark County, Ohio.
He was part of the editorial staff at Tire Business from 1984 to 1986 and was inducted into the Tire Industry Hall of Fame in 2000.
Mr. Stoyer's wife Faye died in 2012. He is survived by a brother, a son, a daughter and two grandsons.
