MASSILLON, Ohio — Jack Hone, who spent a dozen years as publisher of Tire Review magazine, died Oct. 29 following a long illness. He was 81.
Mr. Hone's long career in publishing began in 1969. He was publisher of Tire Review from 1987-99.
He also co-founded Hone Media Group, representing publications such as SEMA News magazine. He was an accomplished musician and music teacher.
"In addition to bringing nearly 20 years of publishing experience to his role, he brought a true sense of camaraderie to our organization," Babcox CEO Bill Babcox said. "He was a well-liked and respected professional that made Tire Review and the industry better, and we are grateful for his contributions."
Mr. Hone played trumpet and flugelhorn as a member of the U.S. Navy. According to his family, he performed with several jazz greats. including Miles Davis.
After retiring, Mr. Hone taught private music lessons and was music director for The Church of the Covenant in Canton, Ohio.
Mr. Hone is survived by his wife Sharon, sister Charlene Nunley (Fred), son Michael Hone (Patrice), daughter Lorraine Nokes (Jeffrey), daughter Tracy Teuscher, first wife Marilyn Hone, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at Denbow Gasche Funeral Homein Ashland, Ohio. Family and friends are welcomed to enjoy food, live music and fellowship immediately after the memorial service.
