SANTA ANA, Calif. — Yokohama Tire Corp. announced that its Yokohama 715R open shoulder regional drive tire now meets the industry's required performance criteria for severe snow service and will carry the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol on the sidewall.
Manufactured at Yokohama's plant in West Point, Miss., all four sizes of the SmartWay-verified 715R — 11R22.5, 295/75R22.5, 285/75R24.5 and 11R24.5 — will carry the designation.
"The 715R's deep-tread provides fleets with a tire that offers long, even wear, an open shoulder design and fuel efficiency," said Tom Clauer, Yokohama's senior manager of commercial product planning.
"Add in the 715R's confirmed capabilities in adverse weather and it definitely delivers the performance and value fleets demand."
Other benefits of the 715R include:
- Longer wear, which is achieved by a deep 26/32-inch tread pattern, along with an advanced tread design featuring strategically placed tie bars to control block movement and minimize heel/toe wear;
- Maximum traction due to sturdy, open-shoulder blocks that help minimize the retention of foreign objects;
- Fuel efficiency compound that's cut and chip resistant and reduces rolling resistance; and
- Higher load capacity, provided by 16-ply construction and an H-load rating, for carrying heavier payloads.
