SANTA ANA, Calif. — Yokohama Tire Corp. is recalling a limited number of two commercial tires produced earlier this at the company's plant in West Point, Miss., because of a tread-separation risk.
YTC is recalling 6,125 of its TY517 MC² and BluEarth 109L tires in size 295/75R22.5, although it said it believes only 68 of them are affected. The products were manufactured between May 29 and June 4 at the West Point plant.
The recall, initiated in accordance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations, was issued because the tires may have been manufactured with an improperly manufactured compound, YTC said.
The affected products' Tire Identification Numbers are 1FABTYJAH 2222 and FABTJAW 2222, respectively.
There is potential for a portion of the tread to separate from the casing of the tire, YTC said, thus increasing the risk of a crash.
YTC will replace free of charge any tires subject to this recall with tires of comparable value. This replacement includes the cost of mounting and balancing the replacement tires.
