MEXICO CITY — The Tarsus Group has canceled the Tyrexpo Americas 2023 show in Mexico City on Dec. 5-7, citing cancellations in the wake of an on-going Mexican antidumping investigation of Chinese tires.
In May, Mexican authorities began an antidumping investigation on imports of certain new passenger and light truck tires from China. The original petition was brought in April on behalf of Bridgestone de México, Compañía Hulera Tornel, Continental Tire de México, Industrias Michelin and the National Chamber of the Rubber Industry on behalf of the Mexican industry. The tire makers claim in the petition that China initiated unfair trade practices and price discrimination by undervaluing product and displacing domestically made products.
Tarsus Group said Tyrexpo Americas 2023 was no longer financially viable after many confirmed exhibitors canceled their appearance, once the investigation was announced.
Alwin Seow, project director of the Tyrexpo Series at Tarsus expressed "our sincere disappointment at canceling the show and for any inconvenience it may cause."
He said the event is working with exhibitors closely, "providing the choice of either transferring their booking to other Tyrexpo series of events, or to receive a full refund."
