Michelin North America Inc. and the Tire Industry Association (TIA) have awarded $4,650 in academic scholarships to two students with ties to TIA member companies for the 2022-23 academic year.

LAS VEGAS — Michelin North America Inc. and the Tire Industry Association (TIA) have awarded $4,650 in academic scholarships to two students with ties to TIA member companies for the 2022-23 academic year.

The winners — Alexandra Wilson and Grayson Martin — were selected based on their exceptional academic and extracurricular achievements, with the judging done by the independent Center for Scholastic Administration.

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship Program, now in its 22nd year, was established by Michelin North America for employees of tire dealerships that are members of TIA. Applicants must be part-time employees or dependent children of full-time employees of TIA member companies.

The scholarship winners were announced during the 2022 TIA Annual Membership Meeting Oct. 31 prior to the start of the Global Tire Expo (GTE)/SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

    The 2022 scholarship recipients are:

    • Alexandria Wilson, daughter of Roxanna Wilson who works for Purcell Tire & Rubber Co. Alexandria received a $1,625 scholarship and is attending St. Louis University where she is studying health sciences on a pre-med track. Her goal is to become a pediatric physician; and

    • Grayson Martin, son of Spencer Martin, who is employed at Pomp's Tire Service. Spencer received a $3,000 scholarship and is attending Washington University in St. Louis, where he is studying business and computer science.

The scholarships can be used for tuition, fees and books.

"For the past 22 years, Michelin has generously partnered with TIA to recognize and support outstanding part-time employees and high school students of employees of TIA member companies," TIA CEO Richard Gust said.

"There is nothing more important than supporting young people as they further their academic careers in college, vocational and/or technical schools., and we are honored to be a part of this special program."

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000. Since its inception, the program has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to 74 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools.

Once awarded, the recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three more years.
