SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A Trelleborg Wheel Systems Americas L.L.C. employee died April 21 after being trapped in a machine at the company's plant in Spartanburg.
Christopher R. Crawford, 37, of Spartanburg, was killed, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner.
The coroner was called to the farm tire plant at 9 p.m. April 21, where Crawford was found trapped in a machine.
The coroner's office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the incident.
Trelleborg Wheel Systems said in a statement: "We are focused on supporting our colleague's family at this difficult time and our sympathies are with them.
"Safety is our number one concern at our plants and we are fully cooperating with OSHA as we continue our investigation."
The plant, which opened in 2015 in a converted coated-fabrics facility, employs about 150.
Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is in the final stages of acquiring Trelleborg Wheel Systems S.p.A. from Trelleborg A.B. The companies anticipate the $2.3 billion deal will close before mid-year.
