CAMBRIDGE, Ontario — The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) is postponing a pair of events scheduled for this year— a centennial meeting/gala and rubber recycling symposium — until 2021 because of concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dates for these events, originally scheduled for June and September 2020, have not yet been selected, TRAC said. The events will take place next year in the same venues, TRAC said, in Toronto and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
TRAC leadership said it decided on this course of action after taking into consideration measures implemented to limit public gatherings amid the pandemic and uncertainty about the future of events in general.
TRAC is planning an early 1900s-style gala featuring Vaudeville music and entertainment for the 100th Members Meeting & Gala. The association was established in 1920 under the Rubber Association of Canada name, an identity it retained until 2014, when the group changed its name to TRAC to reflect more accurately reflect its role within the industry and what it does for its membership.
The recycling symposium would have been the group's fifth such event in the past nine years.
TRAC said the rescheduled recycling symposium likely will be combined with the group's biennial Tire & Rubber Summit into a three-day event, next summer.
