ATLANTA — TireHub LLC. has awarded three students with scholarships through the TireHub Road to Education program.
The national tire distributor, co-founded by Bridgestone Americas Inc. and Goodyear, awarded three children of TireHub Logistics Specialists and Leads with $2,500 scholarships.
The scholarships will be used for the upcoming semester at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.
The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals.
Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability or national origin, the company noted.
This year's recipients are:
- Xavier Fennell, son of TireHub employee — or "hubber" — Wes Fennell, is a senior at Winston Salem State University in Winston-Salem, N.C., majoring in sports management. As an honor student, captain of the WSSU men's basketball team and a volunteer youth counselor, Fennell intends to pursue graduate school and continue playing basketball.
- Marycarmen Montanez, daughter of "hubber" Manuel Montanez, is a senior at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) in Claremont, Calif. She is studying psychology and history with plans to graduate in May and pursue teaching. Among other accomplishments, she is a student manager of Gould Center for Humanistic Students and President of CMC's Psychology Club. She made Dean's List during the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters.
- Cassandra Montanez, Marycarmen Montanez's younger sister, is a freshman at the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif., majoring in psychology. She was active in several organizations in high school and some of her accomplishments include being freshman class president, an avid volleyball player and participating in the Polynesian Club, becoming president her junior year.
"The first three recipients of the TireHub Scholarship Program: Road to Education exemplify what it means to work tirelessly for your dreams," Chris Smith, vice president of human resources at TireHub, said. "These students come from families of incredible 'hubbers' who say, 'yes' every day, and we are thrilled to play a small role in Xavier, Marycarmen and Cassandra's academic endeavors."
