OAK PARK, Mich. — Tire Wholesalers Co. Inc. (TWI) has signed a "pre-lease" commitment for a 275,401-sq.-ft. industrial building under construction in Oak Park, a northern suburb of Detroit.

The building, located in the former Detroit Artillery Armory site in Oak Park, will become Tire Wholesalers' new headquarters and distribution center, TWI and real estate developer Opus Group said.

Troy, Mich.-based TWI said it expects to occupy the new structure before year-end. Oak Park is a community of about 30,000 residents located 15 miles north of downtown Detroit and 15 miles south of Troy.

Tire Wholesalers Co. Inc. is expected to move into this 275,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Oak Park, Mich.

"Our business has grown considerably in the past five years," TWI Founder Ross Kogel Sr. "We are excited to join the Oak Park community and grateful to move to a larger headquarters where we can further update our warehouse technologies and logistics systems."

Mike Robinson, senior director of real estate development for Minneapolis-based Opus Group, added: "We are excited to be developing a modern industrial building on this prime infill parcel in Oak Park while helping Tire Wholesalers bring their vision for the future to life," said

Oak Park City Manager Erik Tungate noted the development will create jobs in the area and add to the city's tax base.

In business since 1970, family-owned TWI has four distribution centers in operation, in Cadillac, Kalamazoo and Troy, Mich., and Hammond, Ind. The Troy site will close once TWI completes its move to Oak Park.
