A pink light will shine on the Giant Uniroyal Tire to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
From pink tires to pink ribbons, the tire industry, like others, is marking the start of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with special events and fund-raising initiatives to fight the deadly disease.
Here is how some in the industry are commemorating:
ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Group Michelin's Uniroyal Tires will continue the tradition of shining a pink light on its Giant Tire in Allen Park in order to raise awareness of the disease and support breast cancer patients.
The tire will shine pink through October, the company said, referring to the pink ribbon that symbolizes unity in support of breast cancer patients.
On Oct. 13, the Giant Tire will be among more than 200 landmarks across the globe to be lit up in teal, green and pink to recognize Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day and support that community.
Metastatic breast cancer (MBC), also known as Stage 4, signifies that cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Teal represents healing and spirituality, green for hope, and pink signifies that the cancer originated in the breast.
"Breast cancer education and prevention is a cause that is significant to us as a brand and to all of us individually," Uniroyal brand director Michelle Grim. "We are glad to use the Uniroyal Giant Tire to show our encouragement and to remind passersby to consider self-exams and other early detection options. "
Uniroyal is encouraging anyone who visits the Giant Tire on Oct. 13, to photograph it and post it on social media, tagging @lightupmbc and @metavivor and using #LightUpMBC.
Radar Tires has partnered with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to raise awareness and funding for life-saving research
SINGAPORE — Private tire brand owner Omni United Ltd. and its Radar tire brand said it is affirming its commitment to support breast cancer awareness month.
Radar Tires has partnered with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to raise awareness and funding for life-saving research since 2011.
During that time, Radar Tires has executed several initiatives and collaborated with its distributors and partners to support BCRF.
This year, Radar Tires is pledging to fund a minimum of 1,000 hours of critical life-saving research, "in line with the brands core value of giving back to society, something that has been in Radar's DNA since its inception," the company said.
"We have always held the cause of breast cancer close to our heart and for the last 14 years we have been supporting the BCRF and the wonderful work that they do," GS Sareen, president and CEO of Omni United, said "Today, we are proud to say that when consumers choose Radar Tires, they are not only investing in premium quality and performance but in a brand that is dedicated to making a positive social impact. This is something we have always done and will continue to do as we strongly believe in the spirit of giving back to society."
TAMPA — RNR Tire Express said it has launched its ninth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, in which the RNR Tire team will donate a portion of all tire sales to breast cancer research foundations to further the advancement in the search for a cure.
RNR also is awarding a breast cancer survivor or fighter with a Think Pink package that includes $1,000, a set of tires and a VIP spa day package. Family and friends of deserving individuals can submit nominations.
A record number of RNR franchises are participating this year. It is the longest-standing giveback initiative in the 24-year history of RNR.
The campaign will serve "as an opportunity to recognize the resilience and fortitude shown by those women and men who have now or in the past struggled with a breast cancer diagnosis," RNR said.
Larry Sutton, founder of RNR Tire Express, called the initiative more about just donating money, but rather "it is about honoring the brave individuals who are fighting breast cancer. At RNR, we believe in doing more than just serving our customers — we're committed to making a positive impact in our communities."
