CINCINNATI — Tire Discounters continues to expand its network of retail tire stores via acquisitions, adding seven locations over the past few months in three states, including its first point of sale in North Carolina
The acquisitions boost Tire Discounters' retail store network to 181 locations, making it the eighth largest independent tire retailer in the U.S., according to Tire Business research.
By state, the acquisitions are:
- North Carolina — Taylor's Tire Pros in Greensboro;
- Ohio — Huddle Tire & Auto with locations in Athens, Lancaster and Logan; and
- Virginia — Dyke Tire & Battery Pros with one outlet in Richmond and Eavers Tire Pros with locations in Fishersville and Stuarts Draft.
Huddle Tire has been in business since 1958, according to information posted online. Richard Huddle is listed as the previous owner/operator.
Dyke Tire is shown as a family-owned dealership in business since 1968. Jim Dyke is listed as the owner prior to the transaction.
Tim McClure is show in online listings as the previous owner of Taylor's Tire.
Eavers Tires was founded in 1949 by Eddie Eavers in Stuarts Draft as a filling station. It's been in the Eavers family since and joined the Tire Pros network in 2009.
Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
The Dyke Tire and Eavers Tire deals are Tire Discounters' third and fourth acquisitions in Virginia this year. In May, it bought Thompson Tire with six retail stores and Bobby's Tires & Auto Care, with two locations.
The acquisitions expand Cincinnati-based Tire Discounters' store network to 181 points of sale in nine states covering a territory bounded by Ohio and Indiana in the north and Alabama and Georgia in the south.
The dealership also operates seven Carriage House car wash locations in the Cincinnati metro area and is expanding into the auto glass-repair/installation business with the acquisition in late 2021 of Lightning Auto Glass in Chamblee, Ga.
The company has discussed plans to expand the car wash business quickly, growing to 20 car wash outlets across the Cincinnati area in the next couple of years and is evaluating the possibility of co-locating Carriage House car washes at some Tire Discounters locations.
