AKRON — The Tire Business editorial staff was recognized recently for journalism done in 2021.
Editor Don Detore won a first place award for best scoop in the Crain Communication's Editorial Awards for his story "Apollo has landed," about Indian tire maker Apollo Tyres Ltd. launching its commercial tire portfolio in North America.
Managing editor David Manley and art director Michael McCrady were recognized by the Press Club of Cleveland in the 2022 All Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards.
Manley won a second place award for general featuring writing with the story "Heading to Mars," about a NASA team designing tires for a new Mars rover. He also earned third place honors in trends reporting for "Last mile," about the rise in demand for last-mile delivery van tires.
McCrady won second place for design of an infographic explaining the North American tire market that was featured in the Market Data Book edition, Feb. 15, 2021.
He also won a third place award in single illustration for his intertwined tire design that accompanied a story about Goodyear finalizing its deal to acquire Cooper Rubber and Tire. The image was featured on the front page of the June 21, 2021 edition.
