BOWIE, Md. — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) and Michelin North America Inc. are accepting applications for the 2020-2021 Michelin/TIA Scholarship, awarded annually to part-time employees or the children of full-time employees of TIA-member tire dealerships.
TIA and Michelin give one award of $3,000 annually for four years and two awards of $1,625 annually for four years for tuition, fees and books for successful applicants, TIA said.
The application deadline is Feb. 3, 2020, at 5 p.m. EST, TIA said.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be part-time employees or the children of full-time employees of TIA-member tire dealerships as of the time of application. Natural children, adopted children, legal wards or resident stepchildren are eligible as well as legitimate children. Employees of Michelin North America Inc. and their children are not eligible.
- Be high school seniors planning to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited college, university or technical vocational school.
- Have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale through the spring 2019 term.

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $485,000 to 66 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools; $12,500 have also been applied to scholarship renewals.
Once awarded, the recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three more years.
This year three high school students —Lindsay Lovvorn of Birmingham, Ala., Savannah Lampley of Rockingham, N.C., and Alexandra Chrisman of Newport, Tenn. — were selected.
