BOWIE, Md. — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) will hold five in-person advanced hands-on Earthmover Tire Service (ETS) training classes for technicians this year, starting April 12-15 in Brooksville, Fla.
The classes are aimed at earthmover tire technicians and offer comprehensive hands-on training using a service truck, hydraulic tools and a variety of equipment that can aid technicians in servicing tires, according to the TIA.
Classes will cover the following topics:
• Service truck operation;
• Preventive-maintenance training (service truck, crane, compressor, etc.);
• Site preparation and equipment;
• Hydraulic tool operation and maintenance;
• Servicing one-, three- and five-piece rims (on machine and loose);
• Wheel- and rim-fastening systems; and
• Wheel inspection.
"Earthmover and OTR tire service requires a higher level of skill to operate the hydraulic tools, cranes and tire handlers, so hands-on training is always going to be the most effective for technicians in this segment of the industry," Kevin Rohlwing, TIA's senior vice president of training, said.
"TIA is fortunate to have supplier and manufacturer partners that support our educational efforts to make sure technicians are aware of the safety procedures and guidelines that must be followed to protect themselves from a serious or fatal injury."
Students who complete the final exam successfully will receive a certificate of completion.
Classes are planned for:
• April 12-15 in Brooksville, Fla.;
• May 24-27 in Garner, Iowa;
• Sept. 13-16 in Garner;
• Sept. 27-30 in Garner; and
• Dec. 13-16 in Brooksville.
Classes will run 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
