PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — TBC Corp. opened nine retail stores in the first five months of 2019 and has 18 more due to open this year, openings that could expand the firm's footprint to as many as 750 stores in 21 states by year-end.
The new stores — single NTB Tire & Service outlets in Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and South Carolina and four Tire Kingdom outlets in Florida — are both greenfield constructions and conversions of existing properties, TBC said. The company did not specify which cities the new stores are located, the stores' size or employment or its investment in the expansion.
Opening 27 stores this year would help balance out the sale as many as 50 NTB Tire & Service Center stores over the past 18 months, including eight in Texas — six in San Antonio and two in Corpus Christi — in January to Big O Tires franchisee Chris Monteverde.
A Big O Tires franchisee since 2004, Mr. Monteverde also owns and operates 19 Big O Tires locations in California.
Regarding the new stores, TBC President and CEO Erik Olsen said, "As an organization dedicated to being the trusted and recognized leader in the replacement tire and automotive services industry, we continue to look for new ways to better serve customers and we will continue to do so."
