Sun Auto ventures east with Hogan & Sons acquisition

PHOENIX — Sun Auto Tire & Service Inc. has acquired Hogan & Sons Tire & Auto Service, a multi-generational family, full-service automotive repair business with seven stores in northern Virginia, expanding the Phoenix-based dealership's network to the East Coast.

Sun Auto Tire, majority ownership of which was acquired recently by California private equity group Leonard Green & Partners, said the move serves as a first step in building a coast-to-coast automotive service organization.

The acquisition, for which no financial terms were disclosed, increases Sun Auto Tire's network to 214 stores.

Founded in 1984 by John F. Hogan Jr. in Leesburg, Va., the dealership has been predominantly a Goodyear-affiliated company throughout its existence, with outlets in Fairfax, Herndon, Purcellville, South Riding, Sterling and Winchester, Va., in addition to Leesburg.

The seven stores have 54 service bays; the dealership has been part of the Goodyear Tires & Service network.

"Expanding our existing footprint and broadening our services, especially in a strong market, is fundamental to how we define our success at Sun Auto," according to Tony Puckett, the newly named CEO of Sun Auto Tire.

Mr. Puckett said northern Virginia is the "ideal market" for Sun Auto to introduce its brand of quality aftermarket automotive repair, maintenance and tire services across to the East Coast.

"Hogan & Sons has had an established presence in the area for almost 40 years, and we look forward to continuing to cultivate those long-term relationships with their customers," he added.
