ATLANTA — Genuine Parts Co., parent of NAPA Auto Parts, has promoted William Stengel president, filling a position that's been vacant since April 2019.
Mr. Stengel — who joined GPC in 2019 — fills a position left vacant when GPC promoted Paul Donahue to chairman and CEO.
Mr. Stengel, 43, previously was executive vice president and chief transformation officer of GPC. He becomes only the eighth president in the company's 93-year history.
Mr. Donahue called Mr. Stengel an "exceptional talent" whose promotion reflects GPC's "ongoing commitment to succession planning."
As chief transformation officer, Mr. Stengel led the firm's transformation initiatives while also taking on various operational and strategic responsibilities, Mr. Donahue added. As president, he will continue to lead these efforts and help management develop and advance GPC's strategic roadmap and execute growth and productivity initiatives.
Mr. Stengel brought nearly two decades of leadership and professional experience to GPC when he was hired in 2019, including roles as president and CEO of HD Supply and executive positions at Home Depot.
GPC is a distributor of automotive replacement parts and industrial parts, whose operating units include NAPA Auto Parts, NAPA Auto Care (U.S.) and NAPA Auto Pro (Canada). Revenues in 2019 were $19.4 billion.
