MINNEAPOLIS — The Franchise Times Top 500 ranking for 2022 includes a dozen automotive service/repair businesses, led by quick-lube franchisors Jiffy Lube and Valvoline Instant Oil Change, whose systemwide sales revenues exceed $2 billion each.
The annual ranking is based on systemwide sales, which the magazine defines as total revenue generated by both franchise and company units to retail customers. The figures do not include corporate sales to franchisees or prospective franchisees, such as royalty revenue or franchise fees.
Collectively, sales by the businesses in the automotive aftermarket category rose 17.3% in 2021 over 2020 to $15.1 billion.
TBC Corp., Driven Brands Holdings Corp. and FullSpeed Automotive are each represented by two brands in the ranking: TBC with Midas International (No. 65) and Big O Tires (No. 91); Driven Brands with Take 5 Oil Change (No. 134) and Meineke Car Car Centers (No. 140); and FullSpeed with Grease Monkey (No. 242) and SpeeDee Oil Change (No. 334).

In addition, the list contains three franchisors of auto parts: Snap-on Tools, with sales of $2.05 billion and 4,786 locations; Matco Tools, sales of $775 million and 1,937 locations; and Mighty Auto Parts, sales of $169 million and 97 locations.
Franchise Times said it collects and verifies information its annual Top 500 ranking over a five-month period, using a combination of companies' voluntary reports and publicly available data, including the franchises' most recent franchise disclosure documents and Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
