WEST COVINA, Calif. — Prinx Chengshan Tire North America Inc. (PCTNA)is recalling more than half a million snow tires that fail to provide traction.
The recall covers a little more than 541,600 Fortune Tormenta and Prinx HiCountry snow tires manufactured between Aug. 24, 2020, and Dec. 7, 2024, in the fim's plant in Chonburi, Thailand, and sold in the U.S. as replacement tires, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
If used in snowy conditions, the tires may not provide expected traction and could increase the risk of a crash. The tires had been tested to a European standard, but failed testing to a North American standard.
Recall letters will be mailed Feb. 1 to notify owners; terms of the remedy are still be worked out. Owners also may contact PCTNA's customer service at 1-310-205-8355, ext. 109, or the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
The 541,632 recalled tires include the Tormenta R/T FSR309, Tormenta M/T FSR310, HiCountry R/T HR1 and HiCountry M/T HM1 in the sizes listed below.
