Prinx Chengshan unveils HiCountry A/T2, Tormenta A/T2

MIAMI — It might have been tempting to call Prinx Chengshan Tire North America Inc.'s two newest latest tires the Bahama-mamas, but the tire maker opted for for a more traditional — and more familiar — names.

PTNA unveiled both the HiCountry A/T2, an all-terrain, all-season tire that joins the Prinx line, designed for light trucks and SUVs, and the Tormenta A/T2, an all-terrain, all-weather product, also designed for light trucks and SUVs, that will become part of the Fortune portfolio.

The products were unveiled on the morning of July 26, just hours before a group of about 150 tire dealers, distributors and PTCNA personnel departed Miami for a four-day, three-night cruise to the Bahamas to celebrate a special milestone: PTCNA's fifth anniversary in the market.

The tires were released during consecutive sessions, one with Prinx dealers and the second with Fortune dealers.

"We are so excited, and we hope that you are too," PTCNA President Samuel Felberbaum told Prinx dealers.

Michael Chu, general manager of Prinx Chengshan Co. Ltd.'s International Business and CEO of PCTNA, also spoke at the event, along with Ken Coltrane, vice president of marketing and development for PCTNA.

The HiCountry A/T 2 replaces the HiCountry AT in the Prinx lineup. It initially will have 41 SKUs for both metric and LT, a dozen more than currently offered, and 11 of those sizes will be adorned with outlined white letters. It will carry a 50,000 mileage warranty and, as an all-weather product, the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake.

You told us ... we need to have a more aggressive tread pattern, and we've delivered that. You said we need a more aggressive sidewall, and we've done that," Felberbaum said.

Prinx will begin taking orders in November for December production.

The Fortune Tormenta A/T 2, which replaces the Tormenta A/T also comes in 41 sizes, including metric and LT, fitting vehicles with rim diameters from 16 inches to 20 inches. It has a more aggressive tread and sidewall pattern, the company said, with 13/32nds to 17/32nds tread depth. Six flotation sizes are available.

Like the HiCountry A/T 2, the Tormenta A/T 2 has a 50,000 mileage warranty. It will be ready to ship in November, Felberbaum said, right after the SEMA Show in Las Vegas early in the month.

Both tires will be manufactured in Thailand.

Felberbaum and Chu also presented an overview of Prinx Chengshan, with factories in China and Thailand as well as three research and development locations globally. The company said it distributes to six continents, selling 20,000+ products to 169 countries and regions.

Sales, according to Chu, reached $1.4 billion in 2023.

PTCNA opened its Los Angeles officer in 2019 and began shipping its Prinx and Fortune lines of PLT and TBR tires to the U.S. and Canada a year later. The company has grown from 10 Fortune and 1 Prinx customer to 54 PCTNA customers today.
