KOBE, Japan — Porsche A.G. and Toyota Motor Corp. have selected Falken- and Dunlop-brand tires as OE fitments on their 2019 Macan and 2020 RAV4 sport utility vehicles, respectively, according to the tires' maker, Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd.
Porsche has specified the Falken Azenis FK510A SUV as an OE fitment on the 2019 Macan in two sizes — 235/60R18 and 255/55R18 in W speed ratings and load indexes of 103 and 105, respectively — for the front- and rear-axles of its four-day hatchback SUV.
The Porsche Macan is geared toward sporty drivers who will make use of the full ability of the Azenis FK510A, SRI said, which features Adaptive Constant Pressure (ACP) tread technology for improved braking performance, directional stability and driving dynamics.
The top-of-the-range model Azenis FK510 has been available as an SUV-specific tire since 2017, SRI said. With an innovative carcass design, the tire ensures precise steering behavior well-balanced overall driving characteristics.
Christian Stolting, key account manager OE at Falken Tyre Europe G.m.b.H., called gaining the factory fitment on the Macan a "bit of an accolade for us."
The new OE fitment with Toyota on the four-wheel-drive RAV4 — the Dunlop Grandtrek PT20 — is for the North American market, SRI said. Toyota spec'd two sizes — 225/60R18 100H and 225/65R17 102H — for the fitment.
SRI also has a Falken-brand fitment on the TRD Off-Road version of the RV4 with the Wildpeak A/T Trail 01A, size 225/60R18, mounted on flow-formed 18x7-inch matte black TRD alloy wheels.
SRI said the Dunlop Grandtrek PT20 features a proprietary tread compound that enhances steering stability, wet grip, fuel efficiency and wear resistance for balanced, all-around high performance both on and off road.
Toyota assembles the RAV4 in North America. SRI has the rights to supply U.S. assembly plants of Japanese vehicle makers with Dunlop-brand tires.
