WEISSACH, Germany — German car maker Porsche A.G. has selected Pirelli P7 and P Zero Elect tires — a new range of tires designed to meet the distinct performance needs of electric vehicles — as OE fitments for its electric-driven four-door four-wheel-drive Taycan sports car.
The designation is the first OE fitment for the Elect line, which Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. said was developed in line with its "perfect fit philosophy." The Porsche version was built with compounding, construction and a tread pattern designed specifically the Taycan.
Porsche has approved three variants of the P Zero Elect, all-season, summer and winter, for fitment on the three Taycan models available: S, Turbo and Turbo S.
The sizes are
- all-season — P7 245/45R20 (front) and 285/40R20 (rear), H rated;
- summer — P7 245/45R20 (front)/285/40R20 (rear), Y rated; P Zero 265/35ZR21 (front)/305/30ZR21 (rear), Y rated; and P Zero 255/40ZR20 (front)/295/ZR20 (rear), Y rated;
- winter — P Zero Winter 225/55R19 (front)/275/45R19 (rear), V rated; and P Zero Winter 245/45R20 (front) / 285/40R20 (rear), V rated.
The Elect also delivers low rolling resistance to maximize the car's range, reduced road noise to increase cabin comfort and low-torque-optimized grip to enhance driveability.
Pirelli did not release photos of the Elect models showing the tread.
Launched in late 2019, Taycan generates up to 530 horsepower (390 kW), propelling the car to 0-62 mph acceleration of 4 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Standard battery range is up to 252 miles per charge.
Porsche earlier approved EV versions of the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 and Goodyear Eagle as OE fitments for the Taycan.
With winter setting in across Europe, Pirelli created Elect versions of the Winter Sottozero 3, Scorpion Winter and P Zero Winter.
