WASHINGTON — Porsche Cars North America Inc. has petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance regarding mismarked wheel rims on some 230,000 Cayenne and Macan vehicles built between June 1, 2007, and Sept. 21, 2018.
The rims on those vehicles do not contain the designation symbol "E" as required by law designating that the rims' published nominal dimensions emanate from the European Tyre & Rim Technical Organisation, Porsche told NHTSA.
The noncompliance is inconsequential, Porsche said, because the rims bear a Department of Transportation symbol demonstrating they meet DOT standards.
Also, the lack of the "E" designation symbol will not prevent owners from matching the proper tires to the rims, Porsche said. Other markings on the rims and the owners' manuals indicate the proper tire sizes, it said.
Nov. 14 is the deadline to comment on Porsche's petition, according to a notice published in the Oct. 15 Federal Register. The notice may be found at govinfo.gov.
