GREEN BAY, Wis. — Pomp's Tire Service Inc. is expanding its reach to the Pacific Northwest with the acquisition of Whalen Tire, the family-owned retail and commercial tire dealership with locations Montana and Washington and a pair of retread plants.
Terms of the deal, Pomp's second acquisition of 2022, were not disclosed.
Founded in 1961 by the late Emmette "Tink" Whalen, Butte, Mont.-based Whalen Tire operates eight points of sale in Montana and one in Washington, with 100 employees. The locations will be rebadged Pomp's Tire "over time," Pomp's Tire said.
The acquisition extends Green Bay-based Pomp's Tire's network across the upper Midwest and Great Plains states to 128 locations throughout 13 states, stretching from Michigan in the east to Washington in the west and as far south as Kansas and Missouri.
The deal also grows Pomp's network of Bandag-system retread plants to 17.
The deal is Pomp's second acquisition in 2022. In April is acquired Dale's Tire & Retreading Inc. of Rapid City, S.D., in a deal that included three stores and one retread plant.
Pomp's Tire is considered one of the three or four largest commercial dealerships in the U.S. as well as among the four largest truck tire retreaders, according to Tire Business research.
