Police seek suspects in killing of tire shop employee

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — Police continue to search for two men who are wanted for fatally shooting a tire shop employee in Capitol Heights, just outside of Washington, D.C., on Sept. 14.

The Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) said the two suspects shot 41-year-old Anthony Okoye at Ameritech Tire.

The preliminary investigation found the shooting occurred inside of the tire shop, where the victim was an employee, according to a PGPD blog post.

The suspects fled the area in a dark-colored Mercedes sedan, PGPD said.

NBC4 Washington reported the tire shop owner believes the men involved were customers who didn't want to pay for work provided, but that has not been confirmed by police nor have the suspects been identified.

PGPD said officers responded to calls for a welfare check at the tire shop's address around 6:30 a.m. There, they located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Okoye was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.
