MILAN, Italy — Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. has released two new tubeless bicycle tires that it claims represent the "spearhead" of its line dedicated to professional road racing and high-performance cycling.

The tires — the P Zero Race TLR and the P Zero Race TLR SL — were developed after three years of study and engineering, and more than two years of road tests, the company said.

The regular TLR, which retails for $80, is an all-round tire that can be used in competition as well as training.

"It's almost a four-season tire," Pirelli said in a statement. "It offers excellent grip, high smoothness and, above all, great puncture protection, at a low weight."

The TLR SL, which retails for $85, is a performance tire, designed to offer the advantages of tubeless technology.

"From grip to smoothness, (it emphasizes) speed and handling at the highest levels," the company said. "It is the lightest and (highest-) performing tire ever produced by Pirelli in its range dedicated to cycling."

The tires were made with SmartEVO, which combines three different polymers. The material gives the tires better grip on wet and dry surfaces while offering little rolling resistance and superior comfort, the company said.

The tires were developed in collaboration with two World Tour teams — Mitchelton-SCOTT of the reigning RR world champion Annemiek Van Vleuten; and Trek-Segafredo of the reigning RR world champion Mads Pedersen and of Vincenzo Nibali.

P Zero Race tires are offered in the following sizes: TLR 700x24C, TLR 700x26C, TLR 700x28C, TLR 700x30C, TLR SL 700x24C, TLR SL 700x26C and TLR SL 700x28C.
