MILAN, Italy — Pirelli & C. S.p.A. has launched a reorganization scheme to broaden its management team in line with the company's succession plan for 2023.
As part of this, Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice chairman and CEO, is to propose the appointment of Angelos Papadimitriou — CEO of Italian packaging firm Coesia S.p.A. — as the general manager and co-CEO who will report directly to him.
Mr. Papadimitriou previously was president and managing director of GlaxoSmithKline and has nearly 30 years of professional experience in the advanced industrial and the healthcare sectors, having worked in various countries in Europe and in the U.S., according to his LinkedIn profile.
Mr. Tronchetti Provera will make the proposal to the board of directors meeting scheduled for July 23, Pirelli said without specifying when the appointment will come into effect.
The reorganization, it said, aims to expand the management team for the "future succession path" outlined by the "procedure" adopted by the tire maker earlier this year.
The procedure foresees that by October 2022 a candidate should be identified to be proposed as the company's new CEO in the first half of 2023.
Under the proposed new "macro-organizational structure," the executive vice chairman and CEO will continue to head the direction and control of strategy and extraordinary operations.
He will maintain as his reports: Corporate affairs, compliance and company secretary; strategic planning and controlling and investor relations; communication and brand image; global institutional affairs and sustainability.
The general manager co-CEO will be attributed with "all the necessary executive levers, as well as all the staff areas not reporting directly to the executive vice chairman and CEO, and the general manager operations, Andrea Casaluci."
