NEW YORK — Pirelli S.p.A. said it has expanded its Pirelli Elect, a package of tire technologies developed for electric cars and plug-in hybrids, for the aftermarket, particularly for winter products.
Pirelli said it is "essential to develop (electric) tires for all the different seasons," and because of that it has developed EV tires throughout all of its summer, winter and all-season lines, including the P Zero, Cinturato and Scorpion lines.
The Scorpion line for SUVs, particularly, has the greatest number of Elect homologations, according to the tire maker.
Pirelli said that it has products to cover more than 65% of the premium and prestige market..
The Italian tire maker said Elect-marked aftermarket tires offer the same benefits as tires used as OE: reduced battery consumption, management of the increased torque typical of electric engines, and optimal support of the vehicle's weight.
Pirelli said in 2021 alone, it had more than 250 Elect homologations, doubling the amount from the previous year.
