WASHINGTON — The National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) has endorsed the tire industry's National Tire Safety Week (NTSW), saying it recognizes the importance of regularly inspecting and maintaining a vehicle's tires.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the NLGA — the professional association for elected officials first in line of succession to the governors in the 50 states and five U.S. territories — has voiced its support for the annual National Tire Safety Week initiative organized by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA).
The annual industry-led campaign, set for June 27-July 3, educates motorists about tire care, safety and maintenance and offers simple and essential steps for proper tire care and maintenance, the USTMA said.
In its endorsement of NTSW, the LGA noted its urges American motorists include regular tire inspections as an integral element of their household routines.
The NLGA issued its endorsement of the NTSW ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, when nearly 35 million were expected to travel by car.
NLGA emphasizes the importance of checking tire pressure monthly and ensuring that vehicle tires are rotated and properly aligned. The resolution also highlights the necessity of assessing tire tread depth, given that excessively worn tires are more susceptible to punctures and hydroplaning in wet conditions.
Resolution sponsors include: Pamela Evette, South Carolina; Garlin Gilchrist, Michigan; Adam Gregg, Iowa); Bethany Hall-Long, Delaware; Jon Husted, Ohio; Randy McNally, Tennessee; Kevin Meyer, Alaska; Billy Nungesser, Louisiana; and Josh Tenorio, Guam.
The USTMA does not have a dedicated website for National Tire Safety Week but does have dedicated pages on the USTires.org site for tire care essentials and tire care and safety.
