RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — Giti Tire USA Inc. is rolling out an "extreme performance" version of its GT Radial Champiro SX2 summer performance line that's suited principally for competition but can be used on the street as well.

The Champiro SX2 RS is an evolution of the SX2 design with a "race-inspired" tread compound mated with the tire's "proven" asymmetric tread design to deliver improved dry and wet grip, the company said.

The tire, made in Giti Tire's U.S. plant in Richburg, S.C., launches in two W speed-rated 18-inch rim diameter sizes, with additional sizes in the works. The tire has just 7/32nds-inch tread depth, belying its competition heritage.

"This new extreme performance tire incorporates proven technologies that have led to considerable success for our company on racetracks around the world," Thomas Okihisa, director of marketing, said.

The launch of the new tire coincides with Giti Tire's decision to return to competing in Formula DRIFT with the GT Radial brand after a three-year hiatus.

"We're anxious to see it shine in Formula DRIFT competition and deliver a real winner for our motorsports dealers who cater to the enthusiast market."

    Other features include:

    • Advanced construction engineered to limit sidewall flex for predictable handling.

    • Extra-large dual shoulder blocks for improved cornering and grip.

    • Wide center rib for stable handling and dependable traction and braking performance.

The company did not disclose pricing information.
