RALEIGH, N.C. — Reece Hester, who spent 45 years in the automotive and tire industry, most recently as director of the North Carolina Tire Dealers Association (NCTDA) and associate executive director of the Automotive Service and Tire Alliance (ASTA), is retiring.
The milestone was celebrated Nov. 10 during a dinner in his honor held at Winston's Grille in Raleigh, where a group of 50 colleagues and friends shared memories of Hester's work within the industry. Hester has served as a tire dealer, and for the last 17 years, led the NCTDA.
To honor Hester's service to the industry, the ASTA has raised $37,000 to establish the Reese Hester ASTA Strive for Excellence Scholarship, to be awarded to Wake Tech Automotive Technology students.
Marc Pons, board president of the ASTA, said establishing the scholarship is "a testimony to Reece's impact on the tire and automotive industry."
Pons said the ASTA " hopes to identify students with exceptional talent, support the next generation of leaders in the aftermarket automotive industry, and shine a light on the important contributions that independent tire and auto service businesses bring to their communities.
"This scholarship embodies Reece's desire to better the tire and automotive industry along with his commitment to excellence"
