AKRON — Myers Industries Inc. President and CEO Dave Banyard is resigning from the company after four years at its helm "to accept another professional opportunity."
The tire-service supply company and plastics-product producer disclosed Oct. 3, that Mr. Banyard's resignation is effective on Oct. 25.
Andrean Horton, Myers' executive vice president, chief legal officer and secretary, has been named interim president and CEO.
The company's board will engage a "global executive search firm" to help find a new permanent president and CEO, it added.
The company said nothing else about Mr. Banyard's departure or his new job, but Chairman F. Jack Liebau wished him well in the company's announcement of the resignation.
"On behalf of the board of directors, we would like to thank Dave for his leadership and contributions to Myers," Mr. Liebau said. "We wish him well in his future endeavors. The company will remain focused on executing its strategic initiatives, including the transformation underway in the distribution segment."
In fall 2018, Myers said it was moving its headquarters from Akron to Cleveland. The company said it could not find space to expand in Akron, but there was speculation that the move was more related to the fact that Mr. Banyard lives in a Cleveland suburb. After Akron officials said there was more than ample space in town, however, the company reversed that decision.
In May Myers announced it would restructure its operations. It did not indicate that effort would reach its top executives and provided few details beyond financial filings that said the company planned to "realign its distribution segment commercial sales structure and expand the segment's e-commerce platform" and also move or consolidate some manufacturing operations in Michigan and Indiana.
