AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Goodyear has developed a dedicated all-terrain version of its Wrangler light truck tire line, the Territory, for the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, a vehicle producer FCA USA L.L.C. is calling the "quickest, fastest and most powerful" mass-produced truck in the world.

Equipped with a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 rated at 702 horsepower and 650 foot-pounds of torque, the TRX is capable of 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.5 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 12.9 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph, according to FCA.

Besides distinct exterior styling, the TRX is equipped with an active-damping suspension, inspired by desert off-road racers, that incorporates forged aluminum front upper and lower control arms, and a Dana 60 solid rear axle with a 3.55 ratio.

The TRX, which has a rated payload of 1,310 pounds and a tow rating of 8,100 pounds, is fitted with Goodyear Wrangler Territory 325/65R18 All-Terrain 35-inch tires mounted on 18-by-9-inch aluminum wheels, available in both standard and optional beadlock-capable rims with accent color-matched rings.

The Wrangler Territory is an OE-specific version of the Wrangler light truck line, Goodyear said. It features a more open, aggressive tread pattern than other all-terrain versions of the Wrangler line.

Ram 1500 models normally feature 8-inch wide wheels, but the TRX design team had to accommodate a wheel that is 9 inches wide.

The debut of the TRX — a play on "T. rex" — marks the arrival of the newest predator in the pickup world, going head-to-head with the likes of the Ford F150 "Raptor" and others.

The TRX features a widened body that incorporates composite fender flares and wells that have been stretched to accommodate the 35-inch tires.

FCA has not disclosed how many TRX models it expects to sell. It goes on sale in early 2021. Pricing will start at $71,690, including shipping.
