GREENVILLE, S. C. — Michelin North America Inc. is recalling a limited number of CrossClimate+ passenger tires in size 225/60R16 103V XL because they are missing some required sidewall information.
The recall covers 32 tires that were produced the week of Nov. 18-24, 2018, at Michelin's factory in Vittoria, Spain. Of these, Michelin said it has secured 20 of the 32 affected tires and "quarantined" them, leaving the potential for up to 12 non-compliant subject tires to still be present in the U.S.
The affected tires lack the required UTQG treadwear, traction or temperature gradings as well as the Department of Transportation certification symbol, which precedes the TIN (Tire Identification Number) on the inner and outer sidewalls.
The tires being recalled are marked with the DOT date code 4618.
Since these tires lack the federally required sidewall information, they fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles."
Michelin will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Jan. 30. Owners may contact Michelin customer service at 866-324-2835.
Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov.
