GREENVILLE, S.C. — Michelin North America Inc. is adding 44 sizes for its Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tire line, covering 17- through 22-inch rim diameters.
Launched in mid-2020, the Z-speed-rated Pilot Sport All-Season 4 was designed to bridge the gap between ultra-high-performance summer and all-season tires, Michelin said, providing up to 4% better dry braking, 5% better wet braking and 10% more snow traction than the predecessor Sport All-Season.
The tire features an asymmetric tread pattern with more rubber on the outer shoulder to help deliver lateral dry grip, while wet grip is addressed by the use of a "race-inspired" silica-based tread compound and a large rain groove to evacuate water.
In addition, the tire has 360-degree variable sipe technology, consisting of full-depth and interlocking sipes, that provides biting edges for improved traction in rain and snow, Michelin said. It delivers 29% longer tread life thanks to "Dynamic Response Technology."
General Motors Co. spec'd a run-flat version of the tire as the first all-season original equipment tire on the mid-engine Corvette C8 that launched in late 2019.
Adding 44 sizes boosts the size range to 103, covering 17- to 22-inch rim diameters, from 205/55ZR16 to 285/35ZR22. All sizes are Z rated; 11 of them are run-flats, carrying Michelin's ZP (zero pressure) designation.
