Michelin expands mining tire portfolio with XD Mineworks

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Michelin North America Inc. has expanded its range of 49-inch rim-diameter OTR tires for mining applications with the launch of the XD Mineworks product for 100-ton mining and quarry dump trucks.

The XD Mineworks tire has a new tread pattern and a 66mm (83 32nds-inch) tread depth to deliver even wear on hard soil, the company said.

The tire incorporates advanced casing and high-wear resistance compound technologies for surface mining tires to handle heavy loads at lower pressure and is designed for balanced performance between tons per mph and and wear resistance.

The non-directional tread minimizes stone retention, Michelin said.

"Developed by a team of global experts, the Michelin XD Mineworks tire is built with high-quality innovations that customers know and trust."

The tire carries a two-star load rating, meaning it can carry the same load as competitors' tires at a lower inflation pressure, Michelin said. It also carries the same manufacturing warranty as other Michelin mining tires.

The XD Mineworks is new to the Michelin portfolio. It joins the three-star XDR3 and the XD Grip in Michelin's 49-inch tire portfolio.

It's manufactured in Europe.
