FREDERICK, Md. — Rice Tire Co. has promoted Mark Messenger to vice president of purchasing, succeeding Maggie Buckholtz, who is stepping back from day-to-day duties at the family-owned commercial/retail tire dealership.
Ms. Buckholtz, a 43-year employee, was hired by company founder Donald B. Rice as an accounting assistant in 1977 and has held various roles, including office manager, assistant to the president and director of purchasing and inventory control.
She is a well-known industry veteran who has testified on Capitol Hill on tire-related issues, the dealership said. She also is a board member of the Independent Tire Dealer Group marketing group.
She will be living in Florida but will continue to work with Rice Tire management as a consultant, the Frederick-based dealership said.
Mr. Messenger joined Rice Tire in 1986 and has held various positions of increasing responsibility, including warehouse worker, truck driver and salesperson, prior to serving as store manager of Rice Tire's Cumberland, Md., location.
Rice Tire operates 11 locations in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
