WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — McCarthy Tire Service is buying 13 GCR Tires & Service stores and three retread plants in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia from Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations L.L.C. (BATO).
The transaction — McCarthy Tire's second purchase of GCR assets in the past couple of years — will expand the Wilkes-Barre-based dealership's commercial business to 60 service locations and 10 Bandag-system retread plants in eight states along the Eastern Seaboard stretching from New York to Georgia.
The deal is expected to close in mid-August; financial terms were not disclosed.

Family-owned and -operated McCarthy Tire is the fifth largest independent commercial tire dealership in the U.S., based on 2018 sales of $346 million, and the seventh largest commercial tire retreader based on tread rubber consumption, according to Tire Business research.
