WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — McCarthy Tire Service has purchased the assets of Tire Sales L.L.C., a Philadelphia-based business unit of TSS Group L.L.C., a mining and aggregates industry servicing company.

McCarthy Tire President John McCarthy Jr. said the deal, for which no financial details were disclosed, "will strengthen our service to our off-the-road (OTR) and industrial customers in the New Jersey-Philadelphia-Baltimore corridor."

The deal includes no physical assets. Tire Sales' products and service operations will be merged into McCarthy Tire commercial locations in Levittown and Trainer, Pa. Five key Tire Sales Service employees will join McCarthy Tire.

"Tire Sales, previously owned by the Morrone family, shares our 'service the customer' philosophy," Mr. McCarthy said. "We anticipate a seamless transition."

"For over 30 years, we have serviced our customers with the greatest commitment and attention to detail," John Morrone Jr. president and CEO of Tire Sales, said.

"We look forward to transitioning our relationships to the McCarthy Tire Service family, who shares our values to customer service. I feel that our customers will remain in good hands with the McCarthy family."

New Castle, Del.-based TSS Group, owned and operated by Mr. Morrone, will now be focused on services related to quarry maintenance and fabrication, quarry personnel, short- and long-term staffing, mobile heavy-equipment repair, hydraulics repair, and hose repair sales and service.

In business since 1926, McCarthy Tire is considered is the sixth largest independent commercial tire dealership and the fifth largest independent retreader in the U.S., according to Tire Business calculations.
