LEVITTOWN, Pa. — McCarthy Tire Service is consolidating the operations of two commercial tire service location in Philadelphia to a larger facility in Levittown that it acquired in late 2019 and renovated to fit its needs.
The new store in Levittown, a community of about 50,000 inhabitants located 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia, handles tire sales and service for commercial trucks, buses, industrial equipment, off-the-road (OTR) vehicles, and farm tractors and implements; a mounted tire program; and fleet services previously handled by a store in Bensalem, Pa., McCarthy said.
In a second phase, McCarthy Tire is planning to move its industrial tire business in Philadelphia — which it acquired in 2017 from the Dooling family — during July to the Levittown facility, a former wholesale distribution center operated by Gallagher Tire.
"This new location is very convenient for our customers," McCarthy Tire President John D. McCarthy Jr. said. "It's only two miles from the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-95. The property has easy access, large service bays, and a good-sized parking lot."
McCarthy Tire acquired the former Gallagher Tire warehouse in Levittown this winter and began renovations to accommodate commercial tire service and foam-filling work. Work was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 shutdown, McCarthy Tire said, but it resumed in early May when the state restrictions on construction activity were lifted.
Renovations were completed ahead of schedule, and team members from several stores pitched in to help transfer product and operations from Bensalem to the Levittown facility.
Seventeen employees from the Bensalem location transferred to the Levittown store and 10 more from the Philadelphia site will move there this month.
At 40,000 square feet, the Levittown site is twice the size of the Bensalem store.
Matthew McLernan, manager of the Philadelphia location, is manager of the combined operation in Levittown. Sherry Beck, the assistant manager in Bensalem, has taken up the same post in the new facility, which is located about eight miles from the Bensalem store.
McCarthy Tire said its leases on both the Bensalem and Philadelphia sites were expiring.
The Levittown store is one of 60-plus service locations McCarthy operates in eight states along the Eastern Seaboard.
